International Rover Challenge (iRoC)

The challenge 

The International Rover Challenge for students (iRoC) features Australian and International high school students building, operating and competing their semi-autonomous rovers in a simulated martian environment, accomplishing navigation,  and construction tasks while assisted and mentored by universities, industry and government partners.

The rovers will conduct In-situ semi-autonomous tasks and interact with the environment using a robotic arm. In addition to the physical challenge, students presented their rover designs to industry professionals, academia and International Rover Challenge judges.

The iRover Scenario

You are part of an engineering team that has been set the challenge to design and build a remote-controlled semi- autonomous land-based rover for use on the surface of Mars. 

The iRoC challenge is to build a model rover that can simulate this scenario using scaled robotic equipment. 

The ‘iRover’ is a surface vehicle designed and constructed by students. The task is to perform a mission on a simulated Mars surface map using the Aldrin Family Foundations Giant Mars Map.

The iRover will have quality engineering design and be constructed to perform reliably.
