Historically shaped by coal mining, steelmaking, and heavy manufacturing, the Illawarra now stands at the forefront of a new era, driven by advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and sustainable energy. With the NSW Government’s designation of the Illawarra Renewable Energy Zone, exciting opportunities are emerging for students to engage with the industries of the future.
Backed by a dedicated regional steering committee and powerful industry partnerships, IASE delivers high-impact STEM initiatives that enhance teacher capability, improve student outcomes, and increase career pathway opportunities, all with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
Our programs, designed for both primary and secondary schools, integrate real-world industry applications with cutting-edge STEM education. Through these partnerships, 79 Illawarra schools have engaged in hands-on STEM experiences, equipping students with the skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving workforce.

- K-10 STEM Specialisations – Mainstream, Aspire, Enrichment, and iSTEM programs embedded in school timetables
- NSW Virtual STEM Academy - Developing & delivering programs to regional, rural & remote students. Students are engaged in courses such as Microbit Mavericks 101 / 201, Arduino 101 & Computational Thinking.
- University Collaborations – Professional learning via University of Wollongong & University of Sydney STEM Enrichment Academy
- Hands-On Programs – Makers Empire, Young ICT Explorers, H2GP, and Deadly in Generation STEM
