Advancing equitable outcomes, opportunities and experiences in STEM
The Academies of STEM Excellence (ASE) are located in regional, rural, and remote areas of NSW, is dedicated to building teacher confidence and capacity through professional learning to strengthening STEM education and career pathways. Established through the STEM Industry School Partnerships (SISP) program, ASEs connect schools, industry, and community stakeholders to deliver real-world learning experiences that prepare students for the future education and career pathways.
Each academy is coordinated by a STEM Project Officer (SPO) and operates as a hub, partnering with primary and secondary schools to create dynamic learning communities.
Aligned with the NSW Department of Education’s Plan for Public Education and the National STEM School Education Strategy (2016-2026), ASEs are committed delivering outstanding leadership, teaching and learning by:
- Advancing experiences and opportunities to build future-ready skills – Addressing the growing demand for STEM expertise in the workforce.
- Empowering educators – Providing professional learning and leadership development to boost teacher confidence and improve the quantity and quality of STEM instruction.
- Industry engagement and mentorship– Connecting students with real-world STEM careers through partnerships and hands-on experiences.
- Strengthening regional networks – Fostering collaboration and partnerships between schools, industry, and communities.
- Inspiring the next generation – Delivering high-quality, innovative teaching that drives student engagement and aspiration in STEM education and awareness of future career opportunities.
